This video on replacing a shovel handle is amazing. The amount of care and craftsmanship taken in doing this small task is inspirational.
Below is what my repaired shovel looks like after somewhat following the video above.
I needed to innovate slightly since I own an orbital sander not a belt sander. I was able to trim the handle end quite well using this! Also I did not do the meticulous repainting of the shovel head or the edge grinding. I have another shovel to repair and maybe I will do those things if I have the time.
