An article I found called "The Cost of Perseverance, in Context" was interesting. The main take away was summarized as such:
The context of the cost is almost as stunning as the video. Of everything in the above comparison table I can only justify the Social Security spending. This context says quite a bit about the scale of spending and the priorities. It makes the point that the cost of the Mars mission is relatively modest. What about housing, education, environment, equality?
