I wrote before on using Lighthouse to measure website performance and on speeding up WordPress. Today I found this interesting article regarding Core Web Vitals, the push by Google to make these a factor in ranking search results, and how the burden seemingly falls on the publisher of the site to improve these parameters rather than on the provider of the CMS. Also by the same author a comparison of the Core Web Vitals performance fo the top five CMSs.
This looks like an opportunity for developers. My own recent experience trying to tackle this has shown that you can in fact get good numbers on a WordPress installation provided you take advantage of caching, lazy loading, and image optimization. However, I have also found that depending on what tools were used to build the site - in particular page builders - this can be much more difficult.
All in all I think this presents an opportunity for developers with the right skills and inclinations.
