Recently I have been spending time re-learning my approach to CSS. I was prompted to do this by the urging of my friend, Chris Melby, who nagged and shamed me into learning CSS grid for layout. So finally I found the time to look at this and it has become a true eye opener. I have found many areas to explore and found some new voices in the field to take inspiration from. I am even beginning to take an actual interest in all aspects of design.
What has become clear is that the evolution of web browser technology has come to a point where it is worth reassessing the ways I have learned to do things and to find ways to better take advantage of what the browser can do natively.
There is a similar story with JavaScript and for that matter HTML as well. New and more widely supported APIs and capabilities are now available that I can take advantage of in my work.
In the job marketplace there is a big emphasis on capability with JavaScript frameworks, but I should consider that the true future of the tech is to let go of the framework approach and learn to take better advantage of what the browser environment gives us for free.
